Bradley Fire Department Chief Jim Baird
As your new Fire Chief, I am proud to introduce you to your Fire
Department.
The Bradley Fire Department is a multi-faceted agency serving
the residents of
Bradley as well as those who visit or travel through our community. The Fire
Department is staffed by 7 full-time and 30 paid-on-call dedicated
men and women.
Emergency services provided include fire suppression, paramedic
level emergency medical service, specialized technical rescue,
hazardous materials incident response and a variety of other responses
to meet the needs of the community.
The Fire Department also offers a variety of other services.
The Fire Prevention Bureau works with local businesses and residents
to help them keep their businesses and residences safe from fire.
Smoke Detector inspections are performed for new residents to make
sure their new home is properly protected. Our Public Education
staff spends many hours with groups of all ages teaching them proper
fire safety techniques.
Many of our younger residents have had the opportunity to see
the fire trucks when they come to visit the schools, parks and
summer camps. Visits by Freckles, the fire prevention robot dog
are always a delight for the youngsters as well as an educational
opportunity geared to their level.
October is Fire Prevention Month. The current theme is “Preventing
Home Fires”. The National Fire Protection Association and
your Fire Department offer these suggestions to keep your home
safe from fire:
- Make sure all of your electrical cords are not frayed, run
under rugs, doorways or overloaded. If it feels warm, it’s
carrying too much current and could start a fire.
- The electrical system in the home or business should not be
overloaded. Never replace a fuse or circuit breaker with a higher
capacity one. The wiring may not be designed to carry the load.
- Test your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors regularly.
Change the batteries twice a year (Change your clock, change
your battery).
- Have an escape plan and a designated meeting point outside
the house in case of fire and practice itregularly!
- Keep space heaters at least 3 feet away from any combustible
surface, and make sure drapes, curtains towels and other combustible
items are kept away from the burners on your stove or range.
- Prevent scalds and burns by keeping your pot handles turned
in where little hands cannot reach them.
- Clean your washer and dryer lint filters after each use and
vacuum out dryer vent piping regularly.
- Have your furnace cleaned and inspected annually. If you have
a fireplace with a chimney, do the same for that.
The Fire Department is here to help you in any way we can. Remember; always
call 911 if you have an emergency of any type.
Please feel free to call our non-emergency office
number (815-933-2401) Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00
PM if you have any other comments, questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
James L. Baird Fire Chief
