The Bradley Fire Department enjoys taking part
in several special events throughout the year. The biggest event
that the fire department holds is the annual firefighter’s fish fry. The fish fry
has been annual event for the last twenty-five years. The event
takes place in June every year, and has activities for kids on
Saturday afternoon along with a newly started firefighters’ BBQ
competition. The proceeds from each year’s event go toward
special needs of the fire department. In past years the fire department
has purchased bunker gear, air packs, and a rescue boat to name
a few.
During the holiday season the Bradley Fire
and Police Departments get involved with needy children. A class
from Bradley West goes shopping with a firefighter or cop. Toys
are bought during this event and are then given to needy children
in the local area. The fire department also does an angel tree
where gift ideas for specific children are placed on angel tags
on the fire department’s
Christmas tree. Members of the department then buy gifts for these
children. The motto that is heard most during this time is “every
child deserves a good Christmas.”
BFD participates in the bi-annual mass casualty event in which
both area hospitals and many local and non-local fire and EMS departments
stage a mass casualty accident then practice handling these events.
